Wir präsentieren mit Lowtide aus Melbourne und Grabbel And The Final Cut aus Lüneburg zwei große Bands des Shoegaze und Noisepop in der Astra-Stube:

Rolling Stone about Lowtide: “Instead of banking purely on swirling guitar effects, Lowtide exploit rhythm and space. The album houses a perfect mix of the driving and drifting, with songs changing shape right before our ears.”
Originally known as Three Month Sunset and centered around the solo workings of Gabriel Lewis, the band came together in 2009. Renamed Lowtide in 2010, the band’s sound evolved from a single ambient, soaring, textured guitar into the band’s current configuration including Lucy Buckeridge (bass/vocals) and Anton Jakovljevic (drums).Lowtide’s self-titled debut album was released via Lost & Lonesome in July 2014 to critical acclaim, including 4 Star Reviews in Rolling Stone Magazine, The Age, The Music, The Courier Mail and 4.5 Star Reviews in The Big Issue and mX. After selling out both their single and album launch shows in Melbourne, the band toured the East Coast twice in support of the album. ‘Lowtide’ was also nominated for The Amp (Australian Music Prize). In August 2015, Lowtide released the ‘Julia/Spring’ 7 inch single, out via Lost & Lonesome and accompanied by a dual video clip directed by Jamieson Moore. The 7” featured a cover of the Asylum Party classic ‘Julia’ and has been spun multiple times on LA radio station KCRW by none other than Henry Rollins.

2016 saw the official international release of Lowtide’s debut album and Julia/Spring 7” via London label Opposite Number. International support for the album so far includes spins from Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne and Henry Rollins on BBC 6 Music, along with a major feature in Rough Trade Magazine and Album Club inclusion. Rough Trade also named ‘Lowtide’ as their #36 best album of 2016.

Lowtide are coming to UK/EU for the first time, following the release of their new single ‘Alibi’.

Grabbel And The Final Cut aus Lüneburg hatten vor einigen Jahren ein Vergnügen, das nicht viele Bands haben: Ihre Anfang der Neunziger aufgenommene Debüt-EP (“Get Your Feet Back On The Ground”) ist vom schwer angesagten amerikanischen Shoegaze-Label Captured Tracks wiederentdeckt und mit (völlig zu recht) großer Begeisterung veröffentlicht worden. Seinerzeit wie heute beeinflusst von The Jesus And Mary Chain und My Bloody Valentine taten sich die vier Herren aus gegebenem Anlass wieder zusammen und haben kürzlich ein ganz hervorragendes Album namens “MMXVI” herausgebracht: Noisepop, Shoegaze, Gitarren, Melodien und ein mächtiger Sound! Um Nostalgie geht es ihnen nicht. Sehr gut.
